I am a Retired Federal Government Acquisition Support Branch Chief with more than 37 years of experience in the field of Government Contracting and Acquisition for the Department of Defense (Navy & Marine).

I started working for the Department of Defense a year and a half after graduating High school. The crazy thing is I started as a Distribution Clerk in the Small Purchase Office - as a GS 1 Worker Trainee. I don't even know if GS 1 is still an entry because you all have it great these days coming out of college. I fell in love with purchasing from the start and began matriculating through the Small Purchase world. When I saw the signatures on the actual purchase orders were those of my coworkers, I wanted IN! Yes. I wanted to see MY name on those purchase orders and the rest is history. I began making rank and within many, many years of promotion, I reached the highest grade of GS 10 and became the purchase office Supervisor. Twenty-four years and I began to think about my (future) retirement and decided I did NOT want to retire as a GS 10. So, after working in the same building (for most of the 24 years) where I started my career, I talked it over with my husband, applied for a promotion at another Air Station and got the job --- as a Contracting Officer's Representative (COR) for the next 4 years. Then, it was time to move to a new town as my husband began leading a church. I applied for another promotion and after a year of hoping, crying, and praying, I accepted the exact job I wanted - Acquisition Support Analyst - at the Marine Corps Logistics Command. Two years later our Branch Chief retired, I applied and was promoted again to the position of Branch Chief! Six years later, I retired after developing and managing IT acquisition packages and leading a team of Acquisition Support Analysts, Administrative and Management Analysts, and a Financial Analyst within the Marine Corps’ IT Division.
